    Booktacular: 5th Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest!

    It’s that time of year again – join us for our 5th Annual Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest! All ages are welcomed to decorate a pumpkin to look like a book character! There are 5 categories: Family; Age 5-8; Age 9-12; Teen; and Adult. All winners get a prize! Pumpkins for decorating are available at the Library on Fri., Oct. 7. Decorated pumpkins due back at the Library by closing time on Mon., Oct. 18. Stop by the Library to vote for your favorite pumpkin Oct. 20-27! The winners in each category will be announced on Oct. 29. Make sure to read the rules, then choose your favorite book character and start decorating! Entry Forms can be picked up at the library.

    Pumpkin Day at Brehm

    Join staff and students on the Brehm Campus Saturday, October 23rd for our Sensory Garden Beginning and Pumpkin day. From 10:00am to 2:00pm: Participants are invited to lay the groundwork for a Sensory Garden which will exist on the Brehm Campus indefinitely. Saturday, October 23rd the Brehm team will clear the designated area and start preparing the soil for planting. Alongside Sensory Garden work, the Brehm Community will host a pumpkin patch. Kids under 12 years old are invited to select a pumpkin for decorating. Brehm team members will be preparing for Carbondale's upcoming Pumpkin Glow! You are invited to come and enjoy the day with Brehm!

    The Haunted Hollow

    The Haunted Hollow, Touch of Nature's fall family fun festival, returns and it's bigger and better than ever! Come join us for an afternoon of not-so-scary fun, including a haunted hayride, our climbing wall, not-so creepy crawlers frightening foods, and games for the kids. Costumes are welcome. Masks, too!     The Pumpkin Glow

    Explore the woods at night at the Oakland Preserve’s Glow Trail! This nighttime hike will feature over 500 jack-o-lanterns along the trail for a beautiful woodland display. Masks will be required for ages 2+. Due to the pandemic, Green Earth will not be hosting the family carnival or concessions this year. $5 suggested donations for adults, children free 6:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29th & Saturday, Oct. 30th Green Earth’s Oakland Nature Preserve, 1201 N Oakland Ave, Carbondale

    Movie on the Lawn (Hocus Pocus)

    Safe Halloween

    Free for the kids! Celebrate Halloween with a festival featuring inflatables, a rock-climbing wall, hayrides, and games! This event will take place in the parking lot of the Murdale Shopping Center from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Bison burgers, hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, and soda will be available. All proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Illinois.

    Candy Walk

    Trick-or-Treat

    Carbondale Mayor John “Mike” Henry is excited to announce trick-or-treat hours for Halloween! Children may trick-or-treat throughout Carbondale on Sunday, October 31 from 5-8 p.m. Residents wishing to hand out candy to “trick-or-treaters” should light up their porches and driveways. “Trick-or-treaters” are encouraged to wear reflective tape or clothing and have their parents check their candy for potentially harmful objects. Mayor Henry and members of the City Council ask for the cooperation of all residents in making this a happy and safe occasion for our community.
